We program time-based work by local, national, and international artists. Our organization is committed to presenting artists who expand, fracture, and scrutinize the traditional cinematic spectacle, including those who use moving image technologies that are digital, interactive, or performative.
We believe in artists first, the voice of the artist, and the payment of artists. Everything else follows from that. Pleasure Dome presents a variety of different approaches to artist’s film, from those of the historical avant-garde to contemporary post-modern strategies of video/film mixes, and other attempts to re-imagine the modernist experimental tradition. To foster a diverse and inclusive screening environment that encourages attendance from as many sectors of the public as possible, Pleasure Dome screens innovative works “expanded cinema” presentations. This programming includes installation and other unconventional exhibition formats. We frequently program short length and small-format works, which tend to be marginalized in the film world. We seek out and present works by BIPOC, women, visible and invisible minorities, persons with disabilities, and persons across the spectrum of sexual orientation or gender identity.
PD is governed by a working board which operates as a programming collective, and is prominently (though not exclusively) made up of practicing experimental media artists and cultural workers.
