The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking a volunteer driver for the transportation program. Reporting to the Transportation Lead, Community Health & Wellness Coordinator and Transportation Scheduler, the driver will be responsible for transporting/transitioning patients from the hospital to their homes, including stops at grocery stores and home locations to appointments along with a Transitional Care Worker. The Transportation Volunteer Driver will provide Transportation services to and from various appointments for seniors and individuals with physical mobility difficulties who are unable to use public transportation.

Key Responsibilities

Follow policies and procedures as indicated in the Driver’s Guidelines

Inspect Canadian Red Cross vehicles for any damage and report to staff (if applicable)

Safely and promptly transport clients to and from appointments

Assists clients to and from vehicle and buildings

Maintain client confidentiality

Complete duty sheets and mileage reports

Abide by all policies, procedures and practices ensuring the safety of all concerned; including securement of mobility aids, circle checks

Drive clients to designated destinations based on pre-scheduled routes, ensuring their safe and punctual arrival

Operate Driver Mate to access ride/route schedule or paper ride manifest, complete mileage reports, accident/incident reports

Perform pre-trip inspection of vehicle before driving and report defects to the Program Coordinator

Follow all policies and procedures as required to maintain a healthy and safe working environment

Ensure that the exterior and interior of vehicles are clean and presentable to clients and the public

Perform safety and security checks of clients and report any concerns of deteriorating health and/or other needs to the Program Coordinator

Qualifications

Valid G class license

Vulnerable Sector Check and a driver abstract is required

21 years of age or older

2 years driving experience with a valid G Ontario Drivers License

This position requires a successful Canadian criminal record check

Written and oral communication skill

First Aid Certification

Willingness to occasionally travel out of town

Working Conditions

Hours are based on client needs, and is an on-call position

The majority of the work is performed transporting clients, with some training hours required in office before you start

Ability to travel distances throughout district transporting clients

Six-month commitment

Minimum 1 day, 8 hours per week – Monday to Friday
