Telephone Support Caller

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking caring and compassionate individuals who can provide phone support, stimulation and reassurance to seniors who are isolated and waiting to be matched with a friendly visitor. Your time will help to reduce their loneliness and improve their quality of life.

Commitment:

Your gift of time, talent and energy is crucial to the success of this program. We require volunteers to commit to one hour per week for a 3-month minimum period. Being consistently reliable is a key attribute of this position.

Location:

Staff support and training will take place at 840 Coxwell Avenue 3rd Floor Seniors Active Living Centre. The remainder of this role will take place from your own home or from one of our WoodGreen sites.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Phone one or more clients at an agreed upon time on a regular basis.

  • Conduct a friendly conversation, listening to the client?s concerns and offering support and encouragement when needed.

  • Check on the client?s health and well-being.

  • Record calls and report any areas of concern to staff for follow-up.

  • Provide information to clients about social recreational programs within WoodGreen Seniors Active Living Centres.

  • Follow WoodGreen?s policies and procedures, adhere to the Client Bill of Rights and follow program specific guidelines.

  • Record and submit monthly hours/activities and report any incidences, accidents or concerns to the Program Coordinator.

What we are seeking:

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • Ability to listen attentively and be courteous

  • Respect the privacy and feelings of others

  • Good knowledge about and sensitivity to ageing issues and challenges.

  • Ability to be self-directed, independent, flexible and exercise good judgment

  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

  • Sensitivity to the needs of seniors who face various physical and mental health challenges

  • Punctual and reliable, able to work independently.

  • Trustworthy.

 

Training:

  • Orientation to WoodGreen?s programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Telephone Support Training provided

  • Ongoing training opportunities for volunteers
