The support group facilitator will:
1. Prepare for meetings by having educational and other materials (supplied by MNC) to assist with conversations that they might have with patients, family members or other caregivers.
2. Facilitate the meeting by having a draft agenda (MNC has suggested topics for discussion at each meeting, on a rotating monthly basis); by asking open-ended questions; by dealing with a difficult conversation; using active listening skills; providing information resources about the disease or other helpful resources.
3. Understanding the role and responsibilities of a support person to provide the best experience for those seeking assistance.
4. Communicate with MNC participant enrollment, signed confidentiality forms and any incidents that should arise.
The support group leader will ideally have a background in counselling, facilitation or training, social work, nursing; psychology or related field. It is a great opportunity for those who are looking to build their skill set and have an ability to connect with others.
