Social-Group Facilitator for Senior Caregivers

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: NCSC - Newcomer Connections for Senior Caregivers (part of the ENRICHES collaborative)

The program engages senior caregivers (55+) in northwest Toronto who are at a high risk for social isolation due to language and cultural barriers, as well as care-giving duties. In this role,  you will be able to support newcomer senior caregivers (older adults who are informally care-giving) in connecting to their communities and social networks, by facilitating healthy living/social activities (i.e. yoga, arts, dance) or English Conversation Circles.

 VOLUNTEER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Commit to weekly, 1-1.5 hour sessions in healthy living/arts or English Conversation classes for 6-8 weeks
  • Encourage accessing community and other networks
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Some knowledge of Canadian culture, history, political system
  • Some knowledge and awareness of settlement and integration issues, or willingness to learn
  • Cultural knowledge/first language proficiency in addition to English

We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working with older adults and making a difference. We match volunteers to groups like English Conversation Circles, Yoga (SEEKING VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS!) and computer skills tutoring. Excellent training curricula involved!
