DESCRIPTION

What Does a Pick Leader Do?
As a Pick Leader, you’ll attend fruit picks with a few added responsibilities. Throughout the season you will:

Receive notifications of available picks, and schedule picks at times that work for you
Pick up the fruit picking equipment and bring it to the pick site via cargo bike or your personal vehicle
Lead a group of 5 volunteers through the pick, making sure everyone stays safe
Deliver ⅓ of the fruit to a nearby partner agency after the pick
Drop the equipment back off at the storage location and ensure it’s organized for the next Pick Leader.
A typical shift for a Pick Leader is between 3.5 – 4 hours. We ask that Pick Leaders commit to leading a minimum of 3 picks each season (between June – October).

As a Pick Leader you get to schedule as many picks as you want each season, at times that work for you. You’ll receive the first notification of available picks, and be able to work within your schedule. Picks can be scheduled anytime between 8 am and 9pm, 7 days per week. This means you’ll be first in line for some of the best picks!

What Makes a Great Pick Leader?
The Pick Leader position is great for someone who is comfortable biking or has access to a vehicle. You’re looking for a leadership role and added responsibility, and are comfortable leading groups of people, problem solving on the fly, and interacting with members of the community.

Why Be a Pick Leader?
Pick Leaders make a huge difference in the community. This is a chance to take on a meaningful volunteer role, spend time outside, meet new people, and make a tangible difference in your community. In 2019, Pick Leaders collectively delivered 6,500 pounds of fruit to community partners. Many of these agencies wouldn’t have the ability to otherwise access a steady stream of fresh fruit for their clients.

You get to schedule as many picks as you want each season, at times that work for you. You’ll get a steady stream of fruit throughout the season, a chance to meet new people, and an opportunity to step into a leadership role. We’re happy to write letters of recommendation for our dedicated pick leaders, and will sign off on any required volunteer hours.

As a Pick Leader, your membership fee is waived, and you still have access to our membership benefits and discounts with local businesses.

We look forward to having you join us in picking and sharing fruit this season!
