East York Learning Experience (EYLE) is a non-profit, community based, adult literacy program that has been serving the East York, East Toronto and West Scarborough neighborhoods since 1987.
We help adults improve their reading, writing, math and basic computer skills by matching them with trained volunteer tutors from the community. We provide resources and ongoing support to help them overcome the social and economic barriers associated with low literacy levels. Our services are free.
Tutors and students meet meet weekly for 2 hours at our office. We provide ongoing support.
All volunteers must undergo training before being matched with one of our students. Our next training sessions will take place on:
Sept 13, 2018, Sept 20, 2018 and Oct 4, 2018
Space is limited, so please call or email now to be added to our list.
All sessions are held from 6:30 -9:30 pm at our office at 266 Donlands Avenue.
We ask that prospective tutors attend all three sessions, as they are cumulative. If you register with us now, we will contact you closer to the training dates, to set up a time for you to come in and meet with one of our staff members.
We ask for a one year commitment.
