Complementary Therapy Volunteer

DESCRIPTION

Complementary Therapy volunteers provide symptom relief to clients through Hospice Toronto's current modalities of: Registered Massage Therapy (RMT), Reiki (Level Two required), Therapeutic Touch (Recognized Practitioner (RP) status required), Healing Touch and Reflexology. The program is one of our fastest growing with more than 50% of our clients benefiting from the expertise of our professional volunteers. Volunteers must hold current certification and membership in good standing with the association and/or regulating body that applies to the therapy that they will practice as a volunteer and must have a minimum of one year of practice in the therapy which they will provide.
Completion of the Core Hospice palliative care training program (35+ hours) and a commitment of 2 hours per week for a minimum of one year is required. The training program includes topics such as Communication Skills, Family Dynamics, Cultural Competency, Understanding Boundaries and the Role of the Volunteer, Hands-on Care Skills, Grief and Bereavement, etc. Volunteers must complete 100% of the training program before being matched with a client. Work takes place in clients' homes.

A personal interview is also required as part of the process as well as a vulnerable person's police check.
