DESCRIPTION

Future Possibilities for Kids (FPK) is a Canadian non-profit organization that provides programs to empower children between the ages of 9 - 12 from underserved communities in the GTA. Camp Contribution is a fun-filled and safe program provided by FPK that is specially designed to help children increase their self-awareness, their confidence, and their ability to take action as leaders within their community and beyond. 

Future Possibilities for Kids is seeking Camp Volunteers for our Vaughan camp location who are able to assist the Camp Coordinator and Camp Leaders. Camp volunteers will help provide an inclusive environment where all children are encouraged to participate, form new relationships, learn new skills, experience new adventures and develop self-confidence.  Volunteers must be able to commit to at least two (2) weeks of camp (37.5 hours each week).  Priority will be given to volunteers who are able to commit to 2-6 weeks of camp AND training.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

•·         Attend a mandatory 6 hours training on Friday, June 29th, 2018

•         Assist in the supervision of campers and help provide  a safe, caring and empowering environment

•        Report medical, environmental and behavioural  emergencies to the Camp Leaders

•         Maintain positive and trusting relationships with campers, parents, staff,  volunteers, and community agencies

•         Report to Camp Coordinator and/or Camp Leader any concerns or incidences related to safety, health, behaviour (including parent questions)

•         Maintain camper confidentiality at all times

•         Collect and record quotes, stories and pictures of kids to represent Camp Contribution experience.

Qualifications/Skills:

•        Attending secondary school

•        Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification (desirable)

•        Experience in working with, or volunteering with, children

•        Strong organizational skills, multi-tasking abilities, creative and able to adapt to change

•        Understanding of how to interact, motivate and energize children

•        Knowledge/understanding of child and youth engagement

•        Engage and  help plan ?back pocket? activities for camp transitions, redirection and free time
