After-School Program Assistant

Malvern Family Resource Centre is committed to strengthening families and residents through inclusive, innovative and effective programs and services in North-East Scarborough.

Overview of the position:

After School Program Assistants work within a team to assist in various activities for children aged 6-12 years, including homework help & recreational activities.  Volunteers are required to commit to one 2-hour shift per week. Volunteers report to the Program Coordinator and liaise with the Program Facilitator and Program Assistant. The program is offered at 90 Littles Roads as well as several schools in North-East Scarborough.

Tasks and Activities:

  • Set-up and clean-up program space
  • Assist children with homework
  • Distribute snacks
  • Participate in recreational activities
  • Supervise children to ensure their safety at all times 
  • Interact with staff, other volunteers and parents in an appropriate mature manner
  • Participate in meetings/planning sessions when required 
  • Other duties as required. 


  • Energetic, enthusiastic and ready to have FUN!
  • Interest/experience working with children in grades 1 to 8
  • Attend mandatory volunteer orientation and required training
  • Willingness to learn and teach others
  • Commitment to volunteering one 2-hour shift per week (program runs Monday to Friday 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm at 90 Littles Rd and several schools in the area)
  • Must be reliable
