About Us:
Elizabeth Fry Toronto delivers gender based, trauma informed services and advocates for justice and equity for women and non-binary people who are criminalized and their families. We support women who are, have been, or are at risk of being in conflict with the law to ensure they have the dignity and capacity to make informed choices about their lives. We advocate for alternatives to the criminal justice system and raise awareness about systemic oppressions that put women in conflict with the law. We envision communities where women are not criminalized.

Volunteer Position Summary:
Talk and Listen is a peer and community run initiative provided for women in conflict with the law, including those who are incarcerated. Volunteers act as a listening ear, having conversations with callers and helping to link them with information to services and resources in the community. Our Talk and Listen volunteers are trained to help work with callers as they navigate the criminal justice system by offering information and resources related to legal information, housing, mental health services, reintegration, release planning, and more - all with a listening and compassionate ear.

The Talk and Listen Helpline is in service Monday to Friday from 9:30am-4:00pm; shifts are flexible throughout the week and will be done from home. Minimum 1-year commitment. Training will be provided.

Skills and Qualifications:
· Commitment to a trauma-informed, intersectional feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression and harm reduction-based practice.
· Knowledge of the criminal justice system, specifically as it pertains to women, is an asset.
· Demonstrate good decision-making and problem-solving skills using proper communication channels.
· Familiar with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Google Drive software (such as Google Sheets).
· Bilingual in French and/or any other language is an asset.
· Developed interpersonal, relationship management, oral, and written communication skills are preferred.
· Patience, and experience with customer service is an asset.
