Meals on Wheels - Driver / Runner (COVID-19 Relief)

Description

Volunteers deliver hot or frozen healthy and delicious meals in Durham Region, while at the same time offering a security check on our clients’ well-being.

Time Commitment
• Weekdays (Monday to Friday).
• Between 11:00am to 1:00pm for 1-2 hours following an assigned route.
• Routes available- daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
• Flexible schedule- Regular on-going (ie. Weekly) or back-up
(ie. Monthly, couple times per month).

Responsibilities:
• Arrive on time to pick up meal delivery bags from meal provider.
• Deliver meals along an assigned route usually designed to be completed in 1-1.5hrs.
• Greet our client, offer a friendly greeting and observe our clients well-being.
• Assist our client with packaging and place the meal ready to eat, in some cases.
• If our client does not appear to be home, to call the office immediately.
• Follow safe driving practices.
• Wear your CCD name badge and display the CCD sign on your rearview mirror.
• Ensure your vehicle is in good working condition.
• Follow routine practices for infection control (Universal precautions).
• Work within your defined role with respect to confidentiality.
• Represent Community Care Durham in a friendly, professional manner.
• Report any problems or concerns to a staff member.
• Volunteer orientation and training required.
• Attend meetings and training opportunities.
• Become familiar with all Community Care Durham services.

Requirements and Qualifications:
• Sensitive to people with needs related to aging, physical ability and/or mental health.
• Able to work independently and as part of our team.
• Physically able to carry delivery bags (10-20 lbs.).
• Strong interpersonal skills and a helpful pleasant manner.
• Possess a valid driver’s license with regular access to a vehicle.
• A clean, well maintained vehicle in safe mechanical condition.
