Business Communication Facilitator/Mentor

DESCRIPTION

WoodGreen is one of the largest social service agencies in Toronto. A founding United Way of Toronto member agency, WoodGreen has grown to span 36 locations and serves 37,000 people each year.

The Community Connections program supports newcomers to adapt, settle and integrate into Canadian society and the workplace through various types of activities. These activities include Professional Mentorship, English Conversation Circles (ECC), Group Activities, Networking Events and Seminars. 

In February, we will be offering a Business Communication Mentorship for 4 weeks.

We are looking for a total of 4 volunteers who have experience with the following topics below.

These four sessions will be tailored for our immigrant clients as follows:

 Week 1: Oral Communication -- learn business buzzwords, common expressions and the art of communicating with your colleagues and boss

 Week 2: Written Communication -- internal vs. external, formal and informal, small group communication, how to write a letter, requests and addressing issues/conflicts via email

 Week 3: Networking -- building and maintaining contacts, where to start and knowing your boundaries, small talk in the office to help you work on your social and networking skills

Week 4:  Pitching an Idea -- how to present to your managers and colleagues, convincing them to buy into your ideas

What are the requirements?

  •  Excellent command of the English language and understanding of Canadian Culture
  •  Patient and interested in working with people from diverse backgrounds
  •  Dependable, self-motivated, ability to facilitate under minimal supervision
